Ask DJIiM Anything: What Is The Difference Between Property and Crime Coverage?

Question: Hey DJ Insurance in Minutes, I’m looking to purchase insurance and noticed there are Property and Crime coverage options. Aren’t they the same? What is the difference between them?

DJ Insurance Wordcloud by RVNA

Answer: Great question! Let’s review each coverage…

Property Plus

RVNA Property Plus Insurance coverage covers any Disc Jockey/Karaoke Jockey/Video Jockey who owns/rents business equipment and business media. Business Personal Property and Business Rented Property provides insurance coverage for any office or DJ/KJ/VJ
equipment (per loss deductible) against most risks of direct physical damage from any
external cause. Business Media coverage covers a DJ/KJ/VJs CDs, KDs, MP3s and Vinyls (per loss deductible) against most risks of direct physical damage from any external cause.

Prevent Property Losses
Need to leave your equipment in your vehicle? Make sure it is secured with an alarm.
Playing a gig with rowdy guests? Raise your gear up away from the lowest area of your booth. Drinks fall in a downward trajectory (whether it be from your hand, or from a table, or the guy coming to request a song) so keeping things higher up can prevent liquid
accidents.

Crime Plus

Crime Plus provides protection for the loss of money and securities due to theft. RVNA Crime Plus includes three things: Employee Dishonesty, Forgery or Alteration, Theft,
Disappearance, and Destruction. Employee Dishonesty provides protection for the loss of money, securities and other Disc Jockey/Karaoke Jockey/Video Jockey equipment or property resulting directly from one or more fraudulent or dishonest acts committed by an employee, acting alone or in collusion with others. Forgery or Alteration provides
protection for loss resulting from forgery or alteration of outgoing checks, drafts,
promissory notes and similar instruments drawn against your (the insured’s) accounts. Theft, Disappearance and Destruction provides protection of money and securities for loss resulting from theft, disappearance or destruction and is divided into two parts, Loss
Inside the Premises and Loss Outside the Premises, each with its own separate per loss limit.

Prevent Crime Losses
Running background checks on all employees of your company can significantly decrease the likelihood of a loss under this coverage. It should be noted that if an employee has ever been convicted of dishonest acts in the past, he/she will not have coverage under Crime Plus.

So What Is The Difference Between Property Plus and Crime Plus Coverage?

Property Plus coverage is coverage for DJ equipment that you own or rent for your
business, as well as the CDs, KDs, MP3s and Vinyls used for your business while Crime Plus coverage is for DJs with employees and protects against Employee Dishonesty, Forgery or Alteration, Theft, Disappearance, and Destruction.

Hope this answers your question and keep spinning!
